- The Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair came to an end on Sunday but the four-day event made headlines largely for a series of thefts which saw jewels worth a total of HK$6.9 million ($890,047) stolen. In the latest cases, three people were arrested for the theft of a HK$830,000 diamond on the opening day of the fair on Thursday. website

- As the impact of the US Supreme Court's ruling legalising same-sex marriage continues to reverberate around the world, a leading rights group in Hong Kong says now is the time to push for new legal protections. But opponents of gay marriage say they have received a surge in support. website

- Kaisa Group has resumed sales in eight cities, including Shanghai, Foshan and Chongqing, but it will take time to repair its cash flow and regain investor trust after the Chinese developer's landmark default on overseas debt. Kaisa said it was increasing efforts to negotiate with lenders to release its assets and restart sales. website


- The decision to use colored powder or paints at two mega events to be held at AsiaWorld-Expo has raised public concern in the wake of the Taiwan park explosion. Life in Color, billed as "the World's Largest Paint Party," is set for July 25, while the Color Run, is planned for December. website

- MTR Corp Ltd should shoulder the cost-overrun if the budget of the already delayed high-speed rail link to Guangzhou exceeds HK$80 billion ($10.32 billion), Legislative Council transport panel chairman Michael Tien Puk-sun said. website

- The accusation that Hong Kong is a tax haven is unfounded and unfair, says Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Ceajer Chan Ka-keung. Chan wrote in his blog that the European Commission should review its inclusion of Hong Kong in the list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions in mid-June. He said the list is loosely compiled. website


- The city's Mandatory Provident Fund recorded an average return of 3.63 percent for the second quarter ending June 23, and an average return of 6.53 percent for the first-half period. Market observers expect that the provident fund may record an over 6 percent return for the whole year.
